The Thai Bar & Restaurant, Shawlands

Review of The Thai Bar and Restaurant in Shawlands

Nestled within a row of shops beside Pollokshaws East Railway Station you’ll find The Thai Bar and Restaurant.  This has been on our to visit list for as long as it has been open.  That’s the problem with places on your doorstep, they get pushed back for more exotic climes such as the West End!

The Thai Shawlands Menu

Anyway back to Shawlands, the glass fronted restaurant looks bright from the outside. Inside it scandi like in its wooden decor no kitsch Thai decor here.  This seems like a restaurant that wants you to sit, relax and enjoy your food.  So to the food.

Menu

The menu is just like the decor, it does what it says.  There isn’t a whole mind blowing range of dishes to chose from, we like this approach, do what you are good at.

What we ate and drank

A glass of and a soda water and lime was ordered.  Sadly the signature ice teas were not available.

The Thai Shawlands Menu

Fishcakes with a sweet chilli and crushed peanut dip.  A refreshing and sweet dip alongside spongy texture and lemongrass tasting fishcakes.

The Thai Shawlands Menu

Thai Yellow Curry with beef.  A mild and fragrant curry with, as you can see, chunks of beef and potato. However, the beef had a dry texture and didn’t seem to have absorbed much of the sauce flavouring.  Maybe using a thinner cut of beef would help?

The Thai Shawlands Menu

The special for Mark, duck pad kra paow. Crispy duck slathered in a spicy sauce. This had a delicious balance of sweet and savoury and packed a spicy punch.

The Thai Shawlands Menu

Burnt cheesecake with a mango and passionfruit coulis.

The Thai Shawlands Menu

The mango and sticky rice on the menu sounded good, but this is only available between June and August.   So a Scoop of vanilla ice cream with a skoosh of cream was ordered instead.

Verdict

For a casual and relaxed evening with comforting food and friendly service.
