Newlands Home Bakery, Shawlands

Southside bakery chain with deli and cafe

Newlands Home Bakery is a bit of an institution Southside. It’s a popular chain, they have 4 bakery shops plus you can visit the bakery at Burnfield Road to buy direct.

The Kilmarnock Road branch is next to Pollokshaws East Railway Station, there is also a bus stop outside.

Inside you’ll find a cafe and bakery counter on one side with a deli shop next door. The deli shop sells cheese and cold meats used in their shop as well as ready made lasagne etc.

What we tried

We have been visiting here for many years. and have tried a variety of items both in the cafe and takeaway.

Pie “n beans, a classic easy meal. Freshly cooked and tasty. Good pie crust and well filled.

Another Glasgow cafe classic, sausage roll and beans. I decorated it with a flourish of brown sauce 😉 Meaty sausage and flajey pastry. Plenty of beans.

Chicken tikka toastie. A good amount of filling, some more spice was felt to be needed to make this tastier.

Tea with an iced fruit slice. Good, strong mug of tea served with a disapointing amount of icing on this slice. Otherwise a well balanced pastry to fruit combo.

Verdict

❤️

Popular cafe and rightly so. Hot food served quickly by friendky staff
