McDonald’s Bakers, Union Street, Glasgow

City centre beakfast and lunch spot

McDonald’s Bakers on Union Street has been on this site for a few years now. I think this is where Oliver’s used to be – now that was a good wee bakery/cafe.

The location is good as next door to Glasgow Central Railway Station for traveller’s looking for a pre or post journey stomach filler.

Inside is clean and tidy with a takeaway area and cash desk for ordering sit in.

Menu

What we ate

We decided to try out their Scotch Pie. A poor sample of a pie. Fatty mush on the inside the kind that triggers heartburn right away! The pastry was like damp cardboard, not crisp at all. This is one pie that would certainly benefit from some beans.

The best bit of the roll with bacon and blsck pudding was the roll. Fresh and chewy. The bacon had been sitting a while so had that extra chew needed. The black pudding, was a thick slice however a thick slice of blandness.

The tea just tasted of that flask hot water taste.

Verdict

💔

Stick to a takeaway bun.
