New cafe for Sunday roasts in Giffnock
The Giffnock Cafe can be found on Eastwoodmains Road, near to Williamwood train station. It’s run by the same people behind The Old Toll Bar in Kinning Park, and Ryan’s Bar in Govanhill. It opened in May last year in the corner unit that for 12 years was the well-respected Ian Brown Food & Drink.
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised to see that they were still serving breakfast, and this seems to be the norm, so we were offered that in addition to the lunch menu. Excellent shout from The Giffnock Cafe as sometimes you just still need a roll and bacon at 3pm!
Giffnock Cafe Sunday Lunch menu
Our food at the Giffnock Cafe
Minestrone soup to start for Mark with a deliciously crisp and fluffy piece of rosemary focaccia. Just the right amount of soup for a starter, lots of veggies and flavoursome.
Prawns with padron peppers for me. Plump prawns in a garlic and chilli oil topped with a couple of perfectly cooked padron peppers.
Roast beef, roast potatoes, honey roast veg, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. A good slice of beef with lots of perfectly cooked veggies.
Mustard glazed ham with colcannon and cheese sauce. A delicious piece of ham with a sweet fatty topping. The colcannon was a superb balance of both potato and cabbage and the cheesy sauce was perfect to mix in with this.
They do proper desserts at the Giffnock Cafe but as we were stuffed we instead took away a thick slice of iced gingerbread from the cafe selection instead.
Overall verdict
Superb. Excellent service, tasty food and we loved the relaxed vibe.
