Where to find a luxurious budget lunch in Glasgow
Glasgow is a haven for seriously good, cheap food and here is one place where you will get something tasty for a budget lunch and help train the next generation of hospitality staff. Scholars’ Restaurant at City of Glasgow College has just launched a new Brasserie menu. We are big fans of Scholars’ Restaurant and we are happy to share what you can get on the new menu.
We’d recommend booking as it can be popular, see the link for booking below. To find the entrance to Scholars’ Restaurant, don’t worry you don’t have to go up that big hill at the entrance to City of Glasgow College as the Scholars’ Restaurant entrance is on Cathedral Street. It is just along from the bus stop, so if you are use a 19, 38, 41, 57 or 240x bus this is even handier!

Food Menu at Scholars’ Restaurant
When we have visited before they had a set menu, with their Brasserie Menu you can pick something lighter or more substantial creating your own level for a budget lunch. Starters include Panzanella salad, French onion soup and Proscuitto di Parma. Mains include grilled sea bass, caesar salad, spaghetti aglio e olio, croque madame or Milanese chicken. You could, of course, just have a dessert, we don’t judge! Rum Baba, creme brulee or chocolate mousse.

Drinks Menu at Scholars’ Restaurant
Theres a wide range of drinks on offer with prices for wine starting at £3.25 a glass, or maybe a cocktail is more your thing?

Teas and coffees are also available.

What we ate and drank
A couple of cheeky glasses of wine to go alongside the focaccia, whipped butter and mixed olives delivered to our table.

The mother ordered some French onion soup, it was certainly the weather for it. Thick and hearty soup with a big crouton on top.

Proscuitto di Parma with whipped ricotta and honey for me. Top tip – save some of the focaccia to swoop up the ricotta/honey mixture.
Milanese chicken with lemon and caper butter, and a courgette and cress salad. Crispy exterior and a moist interior with the tart lemon and caper butter.

Grilled sea bream served with new potatoes and an olive and tomato sauce.

Creme brulee with shortbread, I can verify how buttery the shortbread was!
A rich and fluffy rum baba with lemon, flooftastic.

Verdict
Superb, a little salty in some bits for our palates, however extremely tasty and even more so for the price point. Service was friendly and helpful as well. Well worth booking a table at. Not only do you get a budget lunch, but the food is also tasty, and you are helping to train the next generation.
