Lychee Southside Review

Review of Lychee Southside

We have visited Lychee Oriental in Glasgows city centre many times, this visit to Lychee Southside was a spur of the moment lunch decision.  We had been lamenting the cover loss of business lunches and as if a sign from the food gods, we noticed Lychee Southside had a lunch special – so we HAD to go in!

There is outdoor seating for those warmer days.  Inside, you are greeted by a bar area and tables, there are more upstairs.

We loved the relaxing decor and vibe.  We were soon shown to a table, and given a selection on menus.

What we ate

Chicken noodle soup. A good base stock with a hearty amount of noodles and chunks of chicken.

Vegetable spring rolls.  Crisp and filled with veg – and not just beansprouts! The sweet chilli sauce had just the right amount of oomph for me.

Mixed vegetable stir fry with black bean sauce. Served with a choice of boiled or fried rice or noodles.

I chose fried rice, which was light and not greasy at all.  The vegetables were tender and just enough sauce to coat but not overpower.

Mark picked Kung Po chicken as he could feel a cold coming on. A superb mixture of vegetables and chicken chunks, however it was lacking that Sichuan pepper kick.

Finally, chicken in black bean sauce. Another well balanced portion of meat, vegetables and sauce.

Verdict

👍

Friendly and quick service, tasty food in relaxed surroundings.  Maybe ask for extra peppercorns for a spicier dish.
