Kochchi Glasgow Appoints Shenal Suwaris as Executive Chef
Kochchi Glasgow has announced the appointment of Shenal Suwaris as Executive Chef, just two months after the Sri Lankan restaurant opened its doors in Glasgow.
The West End restaurant has already welcomed more than 2,500 guests in its first month. Now, with Shenal Suwaris joining the team, Kochchi is signalling serious ambition for its next chapter.
From Sushi Samba Edinburgh to Kochchi Glasgow
Chef Shenal Suwaris joins Kochchi following his departure from Sushi Samba Edinburgh, where he held the role of Head Chef.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Shenal is known for his vibrant approach to flavour, combining the traditions, techniques and spice heritage of his home country with a modern and refined style.
A Shared Vision for Sri Lankan Food
The move is also a reunion, as Shenal joins close friends and Kochchi founders Suki Jayaratne and Shehan Fernando.
“Joining Kochchi at this stage feels incredibly special. We’ve shared a vision of showcasing true Sri Lankan flavours in a modern and exciting way. It is an honour to step into the kitchen just two months after launch and help shape its future.”
Sri Lanka Tasting Menu Launching May 2026
From May 2026, Shenal will introduce an immersive Sri Lanka Tasting Menu at Kochchi Glasgow.
The multi-course menu will take guests on a journey through the island’s diverse regions, with heritage recipes, contemporary interpretations and carefully curated spice blends.

What to Expect at Kochchi Glasgow
Under Shenal’s leadership, the kitchen will focus on refining the core menu, enhancing presentation and introducing seasonal additions, while staying true to Kochchi’s colourful street food roots.
“Bringing Shenal on board was always part of the bigger dream. His passion, skill and deep understanding of Sri Lankan flavours make him the perfect person to lead our kitchen. The launch of the Sri Lanka Tasting Menu in May 2026 will be a huge moment for us and for Glasgow’s dining scene.”
Growing the Kochchi Brand
Shenal will oversee both Kochchi Glasgow and the Kochchi site within Bonnie & Wild in Edinburgh, leading menu development, kitchen operations and training across both locations.
He will also take part in food festivals, trade shows and guest chef collaborations across the UK, helping to champion Sri Lankan cuisine to a wider audience.
