Glasgow’s First Gourmet Popcorn Shop POP Opens on Great Western Road

Glasgow’s West End is getting a new sweet and savoury snack spot this week, with POP, believed to be the city’s first dedicated gourmet popcorn shop, opening on Great Western Road.

The independent, family-run business opens at 713 Great Western Road on Friday 11th September 2026, specialising in freshly popped gourmet popcorn alongside soft serve, matcha and coffee.

Gourmet popcorn comes to Glasgow’s West End

POP has been created by local West End mum Maya Brown, who turned a family love of experimenting with popcorn flavours into a new food business.

Popcorn will be made fresh throughout the day in small batches using specialist machinery imported from America, before being flavoured, coated, drizzled and finished by hand in the shop.

The opening menu will include everything from classic caramel corn and chocolate-drizzled popcorn to savoury flavours including mature cheddar and truffle.

There will also be protein popcorn, with seasonal flavours, limited-edition combinations and new creations expected to join the menu as the business develops.

From a family kitchen to Great Western Road

The idea for POP started at home, where Maya and her two daughters would regularly experiment with different popcorn flavours together.

What started as a bit of a family obsession gradually developed into a business idea after Maya spotted what she felt was a gap in Glasgow’s food scene.

Taking inspiration from gourmet popcorn businesses elsewhere in the UK, including London-based Joe & Seph’s, as well as America’s well-established popcorn culture, she decided to create a Glasgow version in the neighbourhood where her family lives.

Maya said:

“POP really started at home with me and my girls. We absolutely love popcorn and were always experimenting with different flavours and making our own creations together.

“It became a bit of a family obsession and, over time, I started thinking there was a real opportunity to do something with it.

“I’d seen how gourmet popcorn had developed elsewhere, particularly in London and America, but there really wasn’t anything like it in Glasgow.

“I wanted to take something everyone knows and loves and make it feel really special, using great ingredients, making it fresh every day and having fun with flavours people might not normally associate with popcorn.”

Soft serve, matcha and coffee also on the menu

POP won’t just be about popcorn.

The Great Western Road shop will also serve Italian-style soft serve, speciality matcha and coffee, positioning it as somewhere to stop for an afternoon treat as well as a place to pick up popcorn to take home.

Maya, who is also a keen home baker, plans to introduce homemade bakes to the counter in future, including her own scones and other sweet treats.

Gifting will also become a bigger part of the business, with plans for packaged popcorn collections for birthdays, celebrations, corporate gifts and special occasions.

A colourful new addition to Great Western Road

The shop itself has been designed to blend traditional sweet-shop nostalgia with a more contemporary look.

Behind a pastel frontage, visitors can expect hand-painted cabinetry, bespoke details and colourful finishes designed to give POP a playful, slightly whimsical feel.

Maya added:

“I’m a West End mum, my girls are growing up here and this is the neighbourhood we know and love, so Great Western Road always felt like the right home for POP.

“It’s very much a family business and the girls have been part of it from the beginning.

“I want POP to become somewhere people locally really love coming into, whether that’s with the kids after school, for a matcha or coffee with a friend, or to pick up a beautiful box of popcorn to take home.”

She added that future plans include more flavours, baking, gifting and collaborations.

“This is really just the beginning.”
