Italian restaurants and Glasgow went hand in hand in the 80’s, think of Dino’s, O Sole Mio and many more. One that many older readers may remember is the Spaghetti Factory.
Located on Gibson Street, The Spaghetti Factory was where Stravaigin is now. Stravaigin opened in 1994, I’m unsure when The Spaghetti Factory closed as I was a tad young then and just finding my feet in Glasgow.
What I do know has been passed onto me by family. Seemingly this was the place to be spotted with Gregory’s Girl star/Altered Images songstress Clare Grogan worked here as a waitress, as did The Times restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin.
Did you know it was a music venue as well? Here we see Strawberry Switchblade interviewed by Viv Lumsden on their first gig.
Orange Juice also played here.

Celebrities of Scotland: Singer and actress Claire Grogan. While working as a waitress at the Spaghetti Factory restaurant in Glasgow, she was spotted by director Bill Forsyth. This led to her breakthrough acting role in 1981’s Gregory’s Girl as Susan. pic.twitter.com/z80wzlrq3y
