Bungo in the Back Lanes returns to Glasgow’s Southside
One of Glasgow’s best-loved neighbourhood events is returning this summer, as Bungo in the Back Lanes brings music, makers, food stalls and community spirit to Strathbungo.
The annual event will take place on Saturday 20 June 2026, from 1pm until 5pm, transforming the cobbled back lanes of Strathbungo into a lively afternoon of local stalls, live music, tea gardens, beer gardens and family-friendly fun.
Held each year around the summer solstice, Bungo in the Back Lanes is a celebration of one of Glasgow’s most characterful neighbourhoods. While Strathbungo is well known for its handsome sandstone homes and conservation area status, the area’s back lanes have their own distinctive charm, with cobbles, old brick walls, garden gates and hidden corners becoming the setting for a very Southside street party.
What to expect at Bungo in the Back Lanes
Visitors can wander through the lanes and discover a mix of home baking, barbecues, bric-a-brac, craft stalls, local makers and community stalls. Residents are encouraged to open their back gates, set up a table and join in, creating a relaxed, friendly event where no two lanes feel exactly the same.
The Strathbungo Society also adds to the atmosphere with organised entertainment, including live music, beer gardens, tea gardens and the popular Makers’ Market. Previous years have seen the lanes filled with families, neighbours, bargain hunters, music lovers and curious visitors exploring this unique corner of Glasgow’s Southside.
A community festival with history
Bungo in the Back Lanes began in 2000, following earlier summer gatherings in Queen’s Park. The idea was simple: bring the back lanes to life and encourage the community to make better use of this shared space.
Over the years, the event has grown into one of Strathbungo’s biggest social occasions, with more households taking part and more visitors coming along to enjoy the day. It has also helped encourage regular lane clear-ups, with residents and Glasgow City Council working together to tidy the area ahead of the event.
