South American Flavours and Uruguayan Wines Come to Glasgow at El Santo’s First Wine Dinner

Glasgow restaurant El Santo is set to host its first-ever wine dinner later this month, bringing together South American flavours and exceptional Uruguayan wines in the heart of the Merchant City.

Taking place on Tuesday 26th May, the one-night-only event will feature a five-course menu from Brazilian Head Chef Juliana Kipper, with each dish paired with wines from celebrated Uruguayan producer Marichal.

Guests will also hear directly from winemaker Juan Andres Marichal, who will guide diners through the evening’s wine pairings and explain the heritage behind the family-run vineyard in Uruguay’s Canelones region.

Five Courses Paired with Uruguayan Wines

The specially curated menu begins with a Tuna Tostada topped with salsa negra, kimchi emulsion and caviar, paired with a glass of Chandon Brut.

A scallop course with sweet potato purée and sugarcane molasses follows, matched with a Natural Orange Wine.

Before the main course, diners will enjoy an avocado sorbet with lemon and extra virgin olive oil, paired with a crisp Marichal Albariño.

The highlight of the evening is Juliana’s signature Picanha steak, served with cassava purée, shallots and okra, alongside either a Marichal Tannat or Pinot Noir.

Dessert comes in the form of a rich Dulce de Leche Fondant with coconut and walnut, paired with an Alcyone Tannat Dessert Wine.

Wine from Uruguay’s Canelones Region

The Marichal vineyard produces a range of wines including Tannat, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Located around 40km from the coast, the vineyard benefits from cooling sea breezes and clay-rich soils, helping to create wines with distinctive character and balance.

“We are very excited to debut our first ever wine dinner here at El Santo,” said Restaurant Operations Manager Denny Norris.

“It’s an honour to partner with Juan Andres Marichal for this experience. Guests are in for a treat with wines specially matched to Juliana’s menu and flavour profiles.”
