Glasgow institution Café Gandolfi enters liquidation
One of Glasgow’s best-known restaurants has entered liquidation after almost five decades in the Merchant City.
The company behind Café Gandolfi appointed a liquidator which we believe is part of restructuring the business. The Directors have made the choice to wind up the company and draw a clear line under its financial history, which allows directors to move forward without personal liability.

The restaurant has not yet issued a public statement about the development, and it remains unclear what the liquidation will mean for Café Gandolfi’s future.
A Glasgow dining institution
Café Gandolfi opened in 1979 and has become one of the Merchant City’s most recognisable independent restaurants.
Founded by Iain Mackenzie, the restaurant was created inside former offices connected to Glasgow’s old cheese market. Its atmospheric dining room, with distinctive handcrafted interiors, has changed relatively little over the years.
The restaurant later came under the ownership of chef and restaurateur Seumas MacInnes, who helped build its reputation for using high-quality Scottish ingredients in familiar, comforting dishes.
At the time of writing, no official announcement has been made about whether the restaurant will continue trading, close permanently or return under a different company structure.
Further information is expected once the restaurant or liquidator confirms the next steps.
