Shawlands Wetherspoon gets go-ahead

Planning permission for historic Southside building

JD Wetherspoon has been permitted to turn the historic building in Glasgow’s South Side into a pub. The old Waverley Cinema in Shawlands has lain empty since G1 Group left after its use as Tusk and Waverley Tea Rooms.

Lost Glasgow has an excellent potted history on their page here.

Drawings suggest that the new Shawlands Wetherspoon’s will seat around 350 people. The cinema atrium will be preserved, which means that there will be the usual 20-mile hike to the toilets, as seems to be the norm in Wetherspoon’s pubs! There will also be an upper external terrace and a beer garden.

The opening hours will change with the venue opening at 8 am daily and closing at 12:30 Sunday to Thursday and 01:30 Friday and Saturday.
