Recently Secret Takeaways launched in Edinburgh helping residents to pay less and shop local with takeaway orders by discovering and supporting independent local brands.

We have a competition running on Instagram just now, win £50 to spend with Secret Takeaways here.

Instead of funding adverts with Snoop Dogg, Secret Takeaways supports restaurants and takeaway owners by letting you order directly from them. Ordering through apps can mean that commission rates up to 35% are being paid to third party delivery apps.

Using Secret Takeaways, you could save around 20% by ordering directly instead of going through a third-party delivery app, according to a recent Which? survey. The survey points out the need for brands to claw back the costs of the high commission rates by adding to the price the customer pays. As a result, food orders may be significantly more expensive through a delivery app than it would be when ordering directly from the restaurants own website.

Callum McPherson, founder of Secret Takeaways said:

“Our mission with Secret Takeaways is to make third party delivery apps redundant. For too long they have been viewed by the restaurant industry as a necessary evil. Small businesses are forced to stomach losing a third of their revenue in order to tap into the consumer demand that is held by the bemouth tech companies. Better deals are usually offered to the massive chains whilst independents contribute most of the revenue to these tech giants. At Secret Takeaways, we are building a community of food lovers who want access to authentic, quality takeaway options at a fair price that supports the business and the people working there.”

Callum continued:

“We are not another food delivery app. We don’t process the orders ourselves and we don’t deliver. We are a community connecting foodies in Scotland to the cities best food spots who are more than capable of processing the orders themselves and either delivering them or offering collection.”

The platform launched in Edinburgh in June 2021 and is now available in Glasgow with other UK cities in the pipeline for later in the year.
